During the visit and work in Nghe An, on the afternoon of January 16, the delegation of the delegation from Gyeonggi-Do Provincial Council, Korea led by Mr. Mun Hyung Kun had a meeting with the Standing Committee of the Provincial People's Council.

Welcoming and working with the delegation were: Nguyen Nam Dinh - Member of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Council; Nguyen Nhu Khoi - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Council; leaders of departments, National Assembly Office and Provincial People's Council.

Overview of the meeting

At the meeting, Mr. Mun Hyung Kun showed that Gyeonggi-Do is the most populous province in Korea with an area of 11,730 km², the population accounts for 48% of the national population, and is the region with the most important political, economic and cultural status in Korea.

Gyeonggi-Do is also famous for local products, especially Incheon rice, Incheon/Gwangju pottery. It is also the headquarters of global IT corporations, such as Suwon Samsung Semiconductor, Paju's, LG LCD Complex Group, Incheon's SK Hynix, etc.

Moreover, Gyeonggi-Do concentrates a lot of Vietnamese and Nghe An workers living and working.

In recent years, Gyeonggi-Do province has enhanced cooperation activities with the provinces and cities of Viet Nam in all fields.

Since 2005, Vinh city, Nghe An province and Namyangju city, Gyeonggi-Do province have established a cooperative relationship. Nghe An and Gyeonggi -Do have signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation. In recent years, the two provinces have had many activities, exchanges and cooperation in investment, trade, tourism, culture, sports and education.

Addressing at the meeting, on behalf of the Standing Committee of the Provincial People's Council, Mr. Nguyen Nam Dinh - Member of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Council was pleased to welcome the delegation of the Gyeonggi-Do Provincial Council, Korea to visite and worke in Nghe An province.

He gave an overview of the geographical, social characteristics and socio-economic potential of Nghe An. Currently, Nghe An is a key locality in Viet Nam in attracting foreign investment. Nghe An has been in the top 10 localities attracting the highest FDI in the country for the past 2 consecutive years.

For Korea, there are currently 24 investment projects in Nghe An with a capital of about 170 million USD and is forecast to continue to increase strongly in the coming time. Export and import turnover between Nghe An and Korea accounts for more than 20% of the total export and import turnover of the province.

The permanent Vice Chairman Nguyen Nam Dinh also proposed that Gyeonggi-Do Provincial Council shall be a bridge to introduce enterprises and Groups of the province to cooperate and invest in the fields of trade, tourism and culture to Nghe An. He also proposed the desire to have a direct flight between the two provinces to facilitate exchanges between leaders, people, and business communities.

“After the exchange, the two provinces realized there are many opportunities to cooperate in many fields. Mr. Nguyen Nam Dinh emphasized that he hope the People's Councils of the two provinces go first to "open" the collaboration between the two localities. After this working visit, the two parties will assign offices and exchange departments to unify areas of collaboration to "open the way" for trade and investment between Nghe An and Gyeonggi-Do.

At the meeting, the two parties discussed and exchanged views on various issues aimed at further enhancing and promoting the development of their cooperative relationship in the future such as: Organize exchanges to connect enterprises from both sides; organize conferences, seminars on investment, trade and tourism; Organize Famtrip and Presstrip to survey products and tourism services and participate in cultural and tourism activities and events organized by the two sides; Strongly promote educational and training cooperation activities to complement each other for mutual development.

Representative of the Gyeonggi-Do Provincial Council delegation, Mr. Mun Hyung Kun was grateful for the respectful welcome from the Standing Committee of Nghe An Provincial People's Council. During this business trip, the delegation will learn more about the local strengths and potentials. At the same time, propose and introduce more connections between organizations and enterprises of Gyeonggi-Do province to seek investment cooperation opportunities in Nghe An.
