In 2022, the province's total export turnover reaches 2.54 billion USD

On the afternoon of February 24, the Provincial People's Committee (PPC) held a conference to implement the export plan in 2023. Comrades: Le Hong Vinh - Member of Provincial Standing Party Committee, Permanent Vice Chairman of PPC; Pham Van Hoa - Director of the Department of Industry and Trade co-chaired the conference.

Attending the conference were leader representatives of departments, committees, branches, People's Committees of districts, cities and towns, together with leaders of enterprise associations, enterprises in the field of Import-Export, logistics and Commercial Bank branches in the province.

Overview of the Conference

Reported at the conference, leaders of the Department of Industry and Trade said that in 2022, the total export turnover in the province will reach 2.54 billion USD, up 4.56% over the previous year, exceeding 8.03% of the year plan. In which, export turnover of goods reached 2.19 billion USD, up 3.6% and exceeding 9.44% of the plan. In 2022, Nghe An is the province with export turnover ranked 28th out of 63 provinces and cities across the country and second in the North Central region. Many export items have a good growth in export turnover compared to 2021, specifically: Textile and garment products reached 457.8 million USD, up 11.5%; phone components reached 390.6 million USD, up 16.3%; wood chips reached 303 million USD, up 66.1%; seafood products reached 91.5 million USD, up 21.9%; footwear of all kinds reached 62.7 million USD, an increase of more than 5 times compared to 2021, etc.

Regarding the export market, in 2022, Nghe An enterprises have exported goods to over 133 countries and territories around the world. Export turnover to a number of markets increased sharply compared to 2021, typically China reached 580.8 million USD, accounting for 26.5% of total export turnover of goods, up 15.1%; Korea reached 321.8 million USD, up 30.6%; 233.4 million USD, up 18.6%; Taiwan 164.7 million USD, up 27.2%, etc.

In particular, some new export markets during the year such as Burkina Faso, Saotome and Principe, Costa Rica, Equatorial Guinea, etc.

In 2022, there were more than 360 enterprises (including 200 enterprises within the province and 160 enterprises outside the province) participating in exporting goods of Nghe An province. In which, there are 12 enterprises with a turnover of over 30 million USD, 22 enterprises with over 20 million USD. It is estimated that the revenue from the province’s import and export activities reached 1,350 billion VND, up 3.8% compared to the estimate submitted to the Provincial People's Council for adjustment and equal to 81.7% compared to the implementation in 2021.

Along with that, the state management of export activities is also interested and promoted. The industry and trade branch has regularly coordinated with the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Vietnamese Trade Offices abroad to update about markets, policies, trade barriers, support policies, etc. actively connect with enterprises and support enterprises in finding export markets through the Zalo digital platform, regularly exchange and promptly update information on markets, product needs, export promotion, share export experiences, etc.

It is forecasted that in 2023, export activities in the world in general and Vietnam in particular will continue to face a number of difficulties and challenges such as broken raw material supply, high input material prices for production, the recession risk of some major economies in the world such as the US, EU, etc. In addition, high inflation in markets, epidemics, natural disasters, droughts, storms and floods continue to occur abnormally, severely affecting, etc. will greatly affect the export activities of the country in general and Nghe An province in particular. At the conference, enterprises and enterprise associations proposed the province solutions to remove difficulties and obstacles in the export sector in the province, such as supporting provincial enterprises in investment promotion; strengthening the grasp of market information and arising issues affecting export, timely providing information for enterprises to respond and proactively adjust.

In addition, the issues of training on regulations and policies in the field of export, capital, high-quality labor and logistics infrastructure, etc. were also mentioned by the delegates.

To achieve the target in 2023, the province's export turnover will reach 2.87 billion USD, of which commodity exports will reach 2.5 billion USD, Mr. Le Hong Vinh – Permanent Vice Chairman of the PPC recommended the Industry and Trade branch to continue developing the source of export goods. In which, reviewing the planning of raw material areas, agricultural production and processing areas for key products of the province; actively promoting investment promotion and calling for domestic and foreign investors to come to Nghe An, focusing on FDI enterprises in the production of products with high value-added content, friendly to the environment. At the same time, focusing on effectively applying incentives from the EU, Japan, Korea, China, etc., exploiting potential markets such as the United States, Russia, Eastern Europe, etc. Promoting support for enterprises participating in cross-border e-commerce platforms such as Amazon, Alibaba, etc.

Departments and branches regularly grasp difficulties and obstacles to promptly remove and support enterprises; promote information dissemination, research support solutions, update information on the situation of international integration and provide specific instructions for enterprises and people to grasp and understand about export of goods. The Permanent Vice Chairman of the PPC also suggested that enterprises in the province should work together to support, learn and develop so that they can take advantage of opportunities and overcome challenges in the integration period.
